      EAT: Sunday Supper with Chef DeJa Johnson of Blue’s Private Chef & Catering

      1400 Food Lab is pleased to present Sunday Suppers– a monthly dinner event featuring one or more of the amazing makers who call our kitchens home. Through these communal meals, they will share with you the cultural heritage, family traditions, seasonal influences, and modern methods that continue to shape their food philosophy, cooking styles, and signature dishes. “Chef Blue” will serve up a “groaning board” of southern-inspired childhood favorites. DeJa wasn’t born in the south, but his father’s family was and DeJa discovered some of his favorite foods on family vacations and visits with friends and relatives in Kentucky, Georgia and Florida. Chef Blue has always enjoyed cooking with his dad and credits him with creating and cultivating his interest in pursuing a career in the culinary arts. DeJa says his dad is one of the finest cooks he knows and still delights in getting together with him in the kitchen and “cooking up a storm.” Mixed Salad with Green Goddess Dressingtrust us – you’re gonna ask for the recipe!  Bacon-Wrapped Meat Loaf with Red-Eye Gravytraditional entrée dressed up with a coffee and tasso sauce  Roasted Ancho Honey BBQ Chickensweet and sticky, savory and tangy – with just a hint of smoke  Braised Collard Greens with Cider & Ham Hocksouthern staple brightened up with crisp apple cider, onions and red bell peppers  Loaded Mashed Potatoesthe name says it all – brimming with butter, cheese, bacon, sour cream, chives  Honey-Butter Cornbreadno southern table is complete without cornbread!  Pineapple Upside-Down Spice Cakestrictly dad’s invention – two of DeJa’s best-loved desserts in one DeJa Johnson of Blue’s Private Chef & Catering (aka Chef Blue) has been a culinary professional for over a decade, but he’s had a passion for cooking all his life. His lifelong zeal for food informs his world view and his art, nurturing the people around him. He is dynamic in the kitchen and a delight to interact with, as he cooks and discusses the food he prepares at 1400 food Lab events and classes, in-home private dinners, and large celebrations. A graduate of Columbus State School of Hospitality Management, DeJa has worked in some of the most popular and iconic restaurants in Columbus including The Lakes Golf and Country Club, Marcella’s in the Short North, several Cameron Mitchell venues, Bent Tree Golf Club, and the OSU Faculty Club. 30 seats are available for this event. A minimum of 18 registrants are required to hold the event. All ticket purchases must be made prior to 5:00 PM, September 5. No refunds or cancellations after September 1. If you are unable to attend, tickets are transferable to other individuals with notice to 1400 Food Lab at 614-636-3164. Tickets are NOT transferable to different events.
